I loved the stories and they kept me amused during the long hours of boredom that I normally experience while traveling to and from my university. It is a fine book. Apr 25, Lanre Ogundimu rated it it was amazing.
Jeffery Archer is a master story teller. The book, A Twist in the Tale, indeed confirms this. But, he does a good job of making urban legends into real stories, so I won't dog him to bad for that. Sep 27, Asha Seth rated it liked it Shelves: , shortstories.
A twist in the tale
A fine collection of short stories. Review to follow. Jun 02, Akemi G. I read this collection and some other short stories I think it was A Quiver Full of Arrows by this author many years ago, and I remember I enjoyed them. Then he got unpopular because of the scandal. I'd love to reread them to see how I feel now.
Nov 23, Prasanna rated it it was amazing Shelves: books-i-own. This collection of short stories was unexpectedly a good read for me. I had read Archer few years ago, but not his short stories. But the simple stories in this collection were good, with a twist in the ending some were easily guessable. Overall an enjoyable read. Sep 02, Dimithri Jayasuriya rated it liked it. Was not expecting short stories, but it was good, didn't like the "steal" but the rest had a good twist.
Jan 13, Linda Rowland rated it it was amazing. My first Jeffrey Archer. Will read more.

However i really enjoyed these, all brilliantly written as usual by this amazing author. Feb 01, Aditi rated it it was amazing. It's an amazing collection of stories. Each one of them, as the title describes, has a twist in it. Overall, it's so much fun to read! Archer writes wonderful short stories and this book is no exception. Each of these stories has a little twist that makes the story a little more or less than it first appeared.
I will admit that there were a couple of stories where the twist eluded me. The standout story, which is worth reading the book for, was called The Steal about a British school master and mistress who save up for a vacation every year and make a point to come away with some piece of treasure. They decide to go to Turkey Archer writes wonderful short stories and this book is no exception. They decide to go to Turkey, which means carpets. The wife researches carpets until she could probably sell them better than most carpet sellers. She understands the insides and outsides of the rhythms of the bargaining process, how they look upon tourists etc.
As they are boarding the plane, they run into the very wealthy parents of one of their more spoiled students.here

They hope it is mere coincidence. It is not. Once they arrive in Turkey the other couple invites them to join them on their yacht etc. It is not a lifestyle to which these schoolmasters aspire but they are polite. Finally it is time to go carpet shopping but they still cannot get away from this couple who leads them into an exceptionally expensive carpet store. While the wealthy couple is demanding all and sundry, the school teacher sees a gorgeous carpet that is just what she is looking for and she measures it and it is the right size and the colors are indicative of its quality.
When she is offered coffee she gratefully accepts. They are very happy because they were willing to spend more. And the shop keeper writes out a bill of sale for considerably less than the price paid. They leave and the shop owner turns to the school couple who tell him that the shop is out of their price range. He disagrees and asks if they have seen a carpet. The shopkeeper's son is outraged but the shopkeeper is very pleased that the carpet is going where it belongs.
He writes out a bill for the exact amount of sale. Back in customs, the wealthy couple ask the school teachers if they would bring their carpet through. They will, of course, pay the duty.
Shipwrecked: a twist in the tale?
It's a well set-up twist and will make the reader very happy at the end. Dec 29, Becky rated it it was ok. I was bored and I needed something interesting with twisted plots to read, so I pick this one up. And at that time, I thought 'Kane and Abel' was the coolest book I had ever read. But now looking back, I don't think so anymore. If I had read this book back then, I would have thought the same 'Wow this book is cool', but no, this book is below average. It should also be noted that this book was written in , and so much has ch I was bored and I needed something interesting with twisted plots to read, so I pick this one up.
It should also be noted that this book was written in , and so much has changed and happened since then, so in order for a story to have 'twist', it will take much more efforts than this.

There are only 2 stories that stand out: the first one 'The Perfect Murder' it is the best, smartest and really 'twisted' story in the book, maybe this is the reason why they placed in first?? For the remaining stories, some of them read like articles in Wikipedia, the writing could not be worse or more painful - it was like Jeffrey Archer just listed out the events happening in the life of a person, which is a greedy thing to do.
